Birthday Celebrations 8 May 2010 by Irene Tibbenham“The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years” (World English Bible), so it was with delight that the Norwich congregation took part in a 90th birthday celebration for Victor Faulkner - one of it’s original members. Vic himself led services on 8th May, and during intercessory prayer, he thanked God for the long and blessed life he had lived so far. Unbeknown to him, his wife Stephanie had organised a surprise party for him. Having contacted friends and family from his past, around 50 people travelled from far afield to celebrate this occasion that afternoon.
A sumptuous cold buffet was laid on for everyone. A table was laid out with memorabilia, including photographs, and guests were asked to write down their memories of Vic and how they first met him. Peter Collecott, a local councillor who has known Vic for 45 years as a fellow cricketer and shop-owner, was on hand to raise a champagne toast, wishing him the very best of health for the next 10 years. Vic then proceeded to cut his lemon drizzle birthday cake, to share with all those present.
Vic, who has led an exciting and varied life, has two children, Denise and John, and one grandson, Duncan. Author of ‘How to Win a War - with Vic’s Real Air Farce’, he is a long time supporter of Norwich City Football Club. A keen gardener, and having already established regular local customers, this year he aims to raise money for SEP through selling plants. Still an energetic man, Vic’s favourite phrase is “Don’t let them grind you down”. We now look forward to celebrating his 100th year! |
