Godalming church started in 1968 as the Guildford church. People travelled from south coast and Surrey and Berkshire. They met in the Quaker Hall in the High St. Guildford. They then moved to the library in Godalming a few years later. Set alongside the lovely river Wey, it was an uplifting place to meet, until the rest of the library users complained that the singing was too loud. Just before moving out of the library the church expanded into the Reading and Southampton churches. The village hall at Busbridge became available and the church moved there until the present day. Other places were used occasionally, Milford School, Borough Hall and Pirrie Hall. Don Dedman is the last survivor from the Quaker Hall in Guildford. Richard Hornby |
