35th Anniversary 9 July 2011 by Joy Barlow On Saturday 9 July, 22 people attended services at Wadia Habashi’s for our annual garden party which this year celebrated our 35th anniversary of the Exeter Church. We brought food and drink and Wadia opened her home for a lovely get-together. We started our service with prayer, hymns and readings. The sermon was given by Bill Allen who comes with his wife Christina every year to our garden parties. We ate outside in the garden as the weather was warm. Afterwards, too full to move far, we had some entertainment. Keith Stevenson who came with his wife Ariane and son Frederic from Cornwall, sang and played his guitar. John Armstrong sang “Ilkey moor barht’at,” giving us some northern culture. Then three ladies (Sandra Moore, Ursula Summerwell, Joy Barlow) dressed up with straight long blonde wigs and sang with actions to the children’s song “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” and Elvis Presley’s “Teddy Bear”, which made everyone laugh when they realised who the ladies were. Ursula made an anniversary cake which we ate with a glass of champagne. A great time was had by all!
