4 - 6 June

Scottish Life Activity Weekend
Lendrick Muir, Kinross

Peter Mill

peter_mill@wcg.org.uk

The weekend will take place from 4-6 June at the Lendrick Muir activity centre near Kinross, an old country house that’s now owned by Scripture Union and has been converted and extended exclusively for use as a youth adventure centre. With 120 acres of grounds around the house, there is no shortage of space to enjoy the fantastic outdoor activities.

Lendrick Muir is located in a beautiful setting in the Ochil hills. It’s right in the heart of Scotland, so it’s easy to get there. Glasgow and Edinburgh are both under an hour’s drive. The Borders, Dumfries, Inverness and Aberdeen are all within about 2 hours.

The centre comfortable lounges, meeting rooms, recreational areas, a huge indoor sports hall, pool tables, table tennis and lots and lots of space. Outside, the grounds beckon, with lots of outdoor activities awaiting you as well as a huge area of park and woodland to explore. Accommodation is in comfortable dorms with all bedding provided.

Over the course of the weekend, the following activities will be available: disc golf (golf played with frisbees), pitch and putt, orienteering, tennis, basketball, five a side football, badminton, beach volleyball, fussball, table tennis and pool. We’ll also be offering three instructor-led activities: trail biking, ropes courses and archery. All activities are included within the price of the weekend.

On top of all of that, there will be lively worship services, a Life Club and a Ceilidh on the Saturday night. The Scottish churches have got together to subsidise the cost of the weekend and as a result, the price represents unbeatable value at £40 per person, including all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday). 40 places are available on a first come-first serve basis and a £10 deposit is required.

Hello to all you adventurous travellers out there!

If you’re like me, maybe you have caught the travel bug. I know I have. I am well and truly infected!

One of my dreams has been to take a group of believers on a trip to Israel. I have never been there but have read so many books about it. I am, I guess, an armchair archaeologist: willing to read about the finds with a cup of coffee from the comfort of my living room, but not really willing to get my hands dirty by digging and scraping etc. I am sure my wife would agree with Agatha Christie who reputedly said that an archaeologist is the best husband a woman could have. Why? Because the older she gets, the more interested he is in her. Maybe I should quit this section while the going is good...

Often, when Christian groups go to the Holy Land, they go from one church to another to see the possible sites where biblical incidents took place. We do plan to visit some churches but will also be concentrating on the history, topography and archaeology of the land. Going up the Mount of Olives, visiting Jericho, floating on the Dead Sea, sailing over the Sea of Galilee, meandering through Masada, walking where Jesus would have walked all those years ago. I can’t wait! And, what’s more, they say October is the best time of year, weather wise.

The group we are using, Camino Tours, comes highly recommended. I have been in touch with others who have used them and heard no complaints, only compliments.

So I am personally very excited at the prospect of this trip! Come join us...see you there!

Bubbling with excitement,

James Henderson
