Galway Harvest Festival

Submitted by Joseph Casey

The Galway Church in the west of Ireland is organising a Harvest Festival of  worship, praise and thanksgiving for early September.  The Church would like to extend a warm invitation to all our brethren and others who may wish to join them in exploring and celebrating the wonders of our faith.

Building on the success of last year’s festival, the church is planning an uplifting and enjoyable week of Christian celebration.  Along with church services, there will be ample time to experience the wild beauty of Connemara, the “other world” atmosphere of the Aran Islands and the Burren, or the charm of the many local places of interest.

This year’s festival will be held from 9 - 15 September at the seaside resort of Salthill, west of Galway city.  The venue for the festival will again be the Salthill Hotel which is situated on the famous Galway Bay seafront. The hotel has 160 spacious bedrooms and suites with expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Clare hills, and special rates of accommodation have been negotiated for the church.  A number of rooms have been reserved for the church and those wishing to stay at the hotel would need to book no later than 9 August.  All reservations should be made through Jane O’Boyle jane@salthillhotel.com.

Please make sure to mention that you are attending the Festival.  The hotel has large overground and underground car parks and extensive leisure facilities including two swimming pools, sauna, etc. which are available for complimentary use by hotel residents.

For those wishing to stay elsewhere, there is an abundance of hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses and a small number of self-catering cottages in the area.  It is advisable to stay on the west/Salthill side of Galway, since driving through the city can be slow at times.  There are also a large variety of restaurants in the local area and in the city to suit all tastes and pockets.

Galway is readily accessible by motorway from Dublin and Northern Ireland, and for those coming from outside Ireland we have three airports at Galway, Knock (Ireland West) and Shannon all within reasonable reach.  Local transport is readily available.
