In an effort to celebrate the community of all believers, we at the Worldwide Church of God seek to present as many opportunities to fellowship and worship and grow spiritually together as possible

Our Women’s Ministry page is just one aspect of those opportunities.  We want to share ideas and events that promote unity within the body of Christ both in our denomination and in the greater community of Christ.  Please help us in this endeavor by sending in any snippets of information on events or activities or undertakings that might be happening in your area.  We’d love to hear from you.   It is only through the sharing of ideas that we can expand our thinking in how to reach out to others

This part of the website is a work in progress and it needs your participation to make it happen.  Any ideas and thoughts are most welcome so please forward these to me at shirley.henderson@wcg.org

Thank you in advance for your help in developing this part of the website

PS - May I also take this opportunity on behalf of all the women in our church to thank Nancy Silcox for her unstinting hard work with Women’s Ministry.  I’m delighted that she has very kindly agreed to continue to help out in whatever way she can

Luton Ladies Day 2007

LUTON LADIES DAY

Around 30 ladies met at the Farley Hill Methodist church Hall for a day of sharing, learning & fellowship.  After a welcome cup of tea, we began with prayer and worship.  Our first speaker was JULIE ROBAS who shared her life journey from a hard life of poverty & unemployment in South Africa before marriage and a move to the U.K.  Through her struggle with depression, where she learned that without God there was no purpose in life.  Her talk was full of memorable quotations that were inspiring and encouraging, such as, ‘It is not what God wants FROM us, but what God wants FOR us’, and Christopher Reeve’s quote, ‘Nothing is impossible--fake it till you make it.’

TINA SULLIVAN spoke next on Managing your Anger and Frustration.  Her talk was both humorous and helpful as we identified with our natural tendency to let our anger build up unreasonably rather than follow the Bible’s advice to ‘not let the sun go down on our wrath’, and to ‘go to your brother alone’ first rather than complain to other people!  She told us about a helpful book by Dr. Paul Hauck called ‘Calm Down’ which says that WE make OURSELVES angry and gives steps to both getting angry and controlling anger.

The men came from their service in the other room to join us for a tasty lunch provided by the ladies of the Luton Church.  Lunch was followed by more worship before we heard from SHIRLEY HENDERSON.  Her talk was entitled ‘Out of Africa’ and using examples from her 14 years of living in Africa gave us a greater understanding of the many things we take for granted as well as things to pray about.  She talked about three issues that involve our freedom of choice, which we consider human ‘rights’, but which are not in Africa, even sometimes among Christians because of the culture there.  These were, ‘Is there such a thing as rape in marriage?’, ‘Is it lawful for a man to beat his wife?’ and ‘Should a man take a second wife?’  Next time we are tempted to have a moan, we will stop and offer thanks to God for our freedoms and blessings.

Our final speaker was MR. ROBIN JONES, who spoke about ‘Making the Most of Your Money’.  This was a very helpful talk that included taking stock of our income and expenditure to make a budget, as well as looking at the many principles in the Bible that talk about money & stewardship.  My favourite tip for not spending money--STAY OUT OF SHOPS!  Mind you, this may not work in the era of internet & eBay!
